Lovely people,
Well, against all odds and a few predictions, I survived the last bit of the school year (shout out to all my educator peeps for making it through another year!) and now I am on vacation, at my teeny tiny cottage on the shores of Georgian Bay.
Gavin and I came early and got settled and then Mariann joined us for two weeks and that made it 127% better. (That is a scientific fact that I calculated.)
I had a birthday. I celebrated with some outstanding gluten-free pizza and a glass of Prosecco, then played Trivial Pursuit all evening, as if it was 1983 again. It doesn’t matter who won, right? It was for fun. (Okay, yeah, I totally won.)
So here I am at the halfway point of my summer vacation, working hard at checking items off my Summer Vacation To-Do List, including:
- Waking up to the sounds of waves pounding the shore.
- Coffee and breakfast on the deck, watching the fishing boats and wood ducks bob by.
- Midday swims. Swims to cool off. Before supper swims. Swims because I got really wet getting out of my kayak.
- Dinners made entirely on the grill, capped off by a perfectly toasted s’more.
- Sitting watching the light come on at the lighthouse across the bay.
- Watching thunderstorms rolls through (Gavin is much less impressed by this than I am.)
- Paddling at dusk when the water is a dark, still mirror and the sky is a giant indigo bowl over my head.
- Looking up at the thick blanket of stars – there are so many more stars here than in Ottawa and I’ve been slowly counting my way through them all.
Oh, and I’m also doing the final edit on The Date Square Dharma. (You didn’t think I’d forgotten that, did you?)
A handful of people have read the manuscript now and they all seem to think it’s pretty good. A few have even uttered the magic words that I was hoping to hear: “It’s even better than Kitchen Sink Sutra…”
I can’t wait to share it with you. It will be published and available to buy in the next few weeks – I’ll post some information here on the website with a link to order it, so don’t worry, you won’t miss out.
I hope you are having an exceptional summer, doing the things you like to do, with your favourite people, because when it comes right down to it – what else do we have in this world except for moments with the people we love?
P.
P.S. Carpe diem, dear ones…
Backyard book club, part 2? Can’t wait!
Backyard Book Club for sure! I anticipate Date Square Dharma will be up for sale by mid- August, so maybe in September?
