Note # 10 – A Public Service Announcement

I was standing in line at the grocery store this week, catching up on important royal family news by skimming the cover of Hello magazine, when the gentleman in front of me in line said, “Excuse me, maybe you could tell us?”

So distracted was I by the photos of Princess Charlotte holding her new little brother, that I had failed to notice that both the fellow in line as well as the young man at the cash register were both staring intently at me.

“Tell you what now?” I said.

“Is it Mother’s Day this weekend or the weekend after?”

“Mother’s Day is the weekend of May 13th,” I said,

“I always get my mom flowers,” the young cashier said.  “She likes tulips.”

“My mom doesn’t like flowers or chocolate,” the gentleman said.  “She’s 85 and she works out a lot.  I usually get her a gift card for The Keg. She and her friends like to go there.”

I decided I wanted to meet this guy’s mom and her friends.

We all agreed that the most crucial part was to pick just the right card – heartfelt and just a little sentimental.

As I drove home with my load of groceries, I wondered how you could grow up into adulthood and not know that Mother’s Day was the second Sunday of May, but apparently that is a thing that can happen.

So, Dear Reader, please let this serve as your reminder that Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 13th.

Your mother might want flowers, and if you get them, I’m sure she’ll appreciate them.  She might want candy or chocolate, or a gift card to The Keg.

But if she’s looking for a really good book to read, I’m hearing that The Kitchen Sink Sutra is testing really well among the Mother Demographic.

Just saying…

P.

P.S.  Dog moms are moms, too.
